A caller to The Law Show on Newstalk 760 WJR in Detroit wants to know what to do if the insurance company will not pay the full replacement cost of a car damaged while parked in Michigan.

A caller’s employer asked for the social security numbers of all of his dependents. Why would they need those? Brian explains that many insurance companies track their insureds with their SS numbers and there is nothing wrong with that per se. The employer and the insurance company are under affirmative duties to safeguard and protect that information. You only need to worry — and call an attorney — if they let that information get out.

A caller has had numerous power outages which cause damage to his home. Instead of filing a claim with his homeowner’s insurance, could he file suit? Brian explains that he could, but the cost of hiring an attorney and filing suit would probably make it economically unfeasible. Sit down with an attorney and discuss all your options.
